Virtues & etiquette of Dhikr

  • Remembrance of Allah is the key to contentment of the heart. Quran 13:28
  • Remember Allah, and He remembers you. Quran 2:152
  • The Qur'an is itself called the Dhikr — the greatest remembrance. Quran 15:9
  • The one who remembers his Lord is likened to the living. Sahih al-Bukhari 6407

Why Sunnah Adhkar matter

  • The Messenger ﷺ is the best example to follow. Quran 33:21
  • Following him is the path to Allah's love. Quran 3:31
  • Newly invented matters in the religion are rejected. Sahih al-Bukhari 2697

Etiquette of Du'a

  • Begin with praise of Allah and salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ. Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3477
  • Face the Qibla and raise the hands. Sahih Muslim 1030; Sunan Abi Dawud 1488
  • Ask with humility, quietly, neither too soft nor too loud. Quran 7:55
  • Be certain of the answer and do not be hasty. Sahih al-Bukhari 6340; Sahih Muslim 2735
  • Repeat the du'a three times, as the Prophet ﷺ loved to do. Sahih al-Bukhari 240

Times when Du'a is readily accepted

  • The last third of the night. Sahih al-Bukhari 1145
  • Between the Adhan and the Iqamah. Sunan Abi Dawud 521; Jami' at-Tirmidhi 212
  • In prostration (sujood). Sahih Muslim 482
  • The hour on Friday. Sahih al-Bukhari 935
  • While it is raining. Sunan Abi Dawud 2540
